NCST's Vision

The NCST has developed a 2015 Vision for S & T that is consistent with, and supports the national vision.

• In 2015, Science and Technology is being used to maximize the potential of Jamaica’s human resources. There is widespread Science and Technology education and a culture of Science and Technology for national development, and sustainable natural resource utilization. This has resulted in sustainable agriculture and food security, wealth, and a better quality of life for Jamaicans.

NCST's Mission

The Mission of the NCST is to improve the quality of life of all Jamaicans through the application of S&T for social and economic development by:

• providing S & T policy advice to decision makers
• coordinating, monitoring and evaluation of S & T policy and planning implementation
• providing S & T information
• mobilising and allocating resources to the scientific community

Strategic Objectives

As a co-ordinating organization, NCST’s success is measured by the collective performance of the S&T sector. The following Strategic Objectives establish desired achievements of the S&T sector in order to ensure the achievement of the National Vision. The NCST plays a coordinating role in ensuring that all players in the S&T sector subscribe to, and play their part in achieving the strategic objectives.

1. To improve the utilization of S&T for competitive and profitable businesses
2. To make S&T efforts for national development more efficient, impactful and environmentally sustainable
3. To develop local S&T competence and capability
4. To ensure that the population understands the importance of S&T
5. To broadly disseminate knowledge and information on S&T
